What sort of Foundation?

We have established an Education Endowment at Haifa University that will be focusing on the study and research of the current history (1800 to current days) of our Community, under the following terms:

  1. I undertake a world wide funding campaign to raise a minimum of $US300,000.
  2. The University of Haifa will establish:
  • A Chair if I raise between $US300,000 and $US500,000
  • A Centre if I raise between $US500,000 and $US1.5 million
  • An Institute (and possible museum) if I raise above $US1.5 million

Why a Foundation?

The Jews of Egypt are now dispersed, having been expelled or forced out by the then (Nasser) Government actions. They had a rich and vibrant community in Egypt until their recent exile. Egyptian Media propaganda denigrates their role. Many of us are longing for recognition. Our children, grand children and great grand children will have nowhere to go after we, the living witnesses have disappeared, to find out about their History. It’s a glorious story of which we should proud. It has to be told. The Endowment will ensure that it is taught and researched in perpetuity and that this will continue long after we have gone.

Financial structure

The amount raised will be blocked in a special investment account and will be controlled by a Management Committee in which I will appoint 3 members and the University 2. The capital will never be touched. Only part of the revenue will go to the University. The balance will be used to promote activities, award scholarships and, if I am successful in raising $US1.5 million or over, will finance the establishment of an Institute with the nucleus of a Museum.
